Every tried cutting baby’s nails? I’m sharing my tips and tricks for you, since it’s important to do it right and it can be a bit scary for new parents.
Cutting baby’s nails
First of all, when your baby is newly born, don’t start cutting baby’s nails. It’s best (in my opinion) to let the super soft and thin nails tear a bit by themselves. The nails are usually very soft and it doesn’t hurt you or the baby when they are a bit long. If you start cutting baby’s nails under two months, you might hurt the little sparrow. That’s not something you would want! If you like to shorten the nails, you could use the baby nail file from Tweezerman, that’s suitable for all ages. Gently move the nail file back and forward, but it’s not easy when they are that young!
After two months
When your bundle of joy is two months, it’s time to start cutting baby’s nails. Now, if you still think it’s too early and you’re a bit scared, use a nail file and softly file your baby’s nails. When you feel confident enough and dare to cut the nails, use a baby nail clipper. Don’t just use your own! The baby nail clipper from Tweezerman is specially sized for baby nails. If you prefer baby nail scissors, I like to recommend having one that has a rounded tip, for safety reasons. It’s also easy for the toe nails.
My trick is cutting baby’s nails while he’s asleep. Mason doesn’t wake up when I’m cutting his nails. It won’t bother him because he’s asleep and I avoid the risk that he moves, just the same second as I cut his nail (which can hurt him if I would accidentally cut in his skin).
Dirty little man
Since our son is grabbing everything he can with his little hands, there will end up some dirt under his nails and it looks horrible. I am ashamed of his nails, when I see those little mini nails filled with a little bit of dirt. As you might expect, Tweezerman made a little baby brush for to clean under your baby’s nails as well. Use it while you have your baby in the bath tub and try to make it a little game. Make funny noises when you clean his nails.
Tweezerman baby kit
I tried the baby manicure kit from Tweezerman, which contains all the products above. It’s colored in yellow, so that it suits both boy or a girl. Before this kit, I have tried other baby manicure kits, but I prefer the one from Tweezerman since the material is strong, the colors are cute and the kit contains everything you need, from newly born until an older age. Price 42,95 euro.
Tweezerman is famous for it’s tweezer, read more in my previous post.
