10 things I asked my good friend Maikel

Today I’m sharing 10 things I asked my good friend Maikel. He is one of my dearest friends for over 5 years. We went through different fases together in life, we changed, we disagreed, we laughed, we partied, we enjoyed together. We even shared bathroom moments together. No, we have not seen each other naked but that’s almost the only thing we didn’t do as being friends ha ha.

Maikel is not only a good friend, he is also a very inspiring person in general. A lot of people get inspired by him. Including me. It’s great to have friends and family around you that help you, inspire you and push you forward when you need it. Maikel and I speak every day. I think the first thing I receive in the morning is a text message from him and usually a phone call too. This means that he is very close, usually knows everything about my life and has a lot of influence on me too. I can tell him my feelings, but I also listen to his daily struggles, positive experience and life moments in general.

Maikel lives in the Netherlands, but is almost as often in Hamburg, Germany as he is in the Netherlands. You’ll find out in this interview why. This week he came to visit us in Stockholm and I wanted to share my friendship with him on my blog with you as my followers. Next to that, has he been a big blogger and youtuber. So the perfect person to ask some Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle questions. Also some personal questions! Here is the interview with my good friend Maikel:

  1. What do you think of our friendship?
What I value about our friendship is, that we have the ability to speak our minds. To say whatever and however we feel. To share the same vision on life and to be so different from each other but still so the same in our values. We fit each other perfect and we are always there for each other. The distance means so little when someone means so much. The vision on life is to always make the best of every situation. To start every day positive and always try to be the best version of ourselves. Every day is a day to become an even better version of yourself.”The distance means so little when someone means so much.”
  2. What is your favorite store?
In the Netherlands I love the departmentstore Bijenkorf (Amsterdam), because it’s perfect for anything that has got to do with beauty fashion and lifestyle. I enjoy shopping in Stockholm in NK, because they have a beautiful presentation, good taste and a very comfortable atmosphere.
  3. Whats your favorite city?
Hamburg, Germany, because the love of my life is living there and it’s such a beautiful city. It’s really good for going out for dinner, it has a lot of beautiful parks and it feels like my second home.
  4. What does a city needs to make you feel home?
Good infrastructure, nice stores, things which I have at home (NL), but also new and different things. For example, it offers so many great ways to enjoy the day. In Hamburg we go out for a nice lunch or to have an afterwork or dinner. It’s a different city life. In Holland we are very orientated around our house. In Hamburg the focus is more outside of the house.
  5. What is your favorite hotspot of Amsterdam (besides Bijenkorf).
After a full day (of work or shopping) I really enjoy to relax at Conservatorium hotel. Drink a nice tea or enjoy their delicious ‘patisserie’. Besides that, they have an amazing spa which is really beautiful. The whole ambiance in the hotel makes me feel at home. I like to go to a hotel in general, because it’s not so crowded. It’s more private and there is great consumer service. You don’t have to wait in queue. Hotels in general are great.
  6. What is your favorite hotel?
East Hotel in Hamburg, because they have the best sushi in town. And it’s also great to have a drink afterwork. I prefer my drinks with a little bit of vodka. This is the perfect place to have one. They are close to the harbor as well. I love that as well.
  7. What is your beauty ritual to get ready for summer?
I think body wise its’ really important to keep your body in shape: body work outs. I go to the gym. I love body brushing; a daily massage with a special Mio body brush. To begin from ankles, up to my  upper leg, arms, back and chest. This works really well for daily exfoliation. It’s good for blood circulation. It works to get your lymphs going. It’s also good against bloating. On top of that it gives you beautiful, glowing skin.
A regular pedicure is necessary for summer. I don’t want to walk around as an elephant in sandals. Always put bodylotion on. Once a week, I use a little bit of self tan, for example; James Read or the classic Saint Tropez. I recommend to always put on a SPF, because you want to keep an even skin tone. And it’s really important to protect your face and body.
  8. What do you love most about summer?
My skin gets darker, my hair gets light, the days last longer and everybody connects way stronger.
  9. Which places on earth would you like to discover?
    1. More of the West Coast of USA; California, for example LA, San Francisco. I would like to get married in Vegas too!
    2. I really would love to visit Asia; China, Korea, Japan. It seems like they have so much good stuff to offer for skin & beauty. These people really know how to take care of their skin.
    3. Europe; Italy, Verona Porto Fino, Cicilia and Milano. Italian food is my biggest addiction. The culture so romantic and passioned. The architecture is so historical there.
  10. What is your future dream?
A personal dream: I wish to still be as enthusiastic as I am right now. To live a happy life and to do what makes me smile. To do what feels right in the moment and never loose my own opinion. To stay energetic and healthy.
On my bucket list is to travel more, I would love to see more of the world.

Maikel seems to have a very positive attitude, and I think that’s great. You are lucky to have such a close friend. I liked reading his suggestions for what to do in Amsterdam and Hamburg because I am going to both cities this summer. I look forward to trying the sushi!

What you guys have is something much more than friendship that isn’t deep romance, of course. I love bonds like what you guys have and it certainly made you pick up a pen and write about him. I like his dream, and being the way that I am now, it’s all worth it! Maikel, you’ll love the Philippines too, we have a lot of nice people and places for a great stay.

The body scrubs sounds so relaxing an rejuvenating. I also do body scrubs at least twice a week to de-stress and relax. I bought this really nice brush that can reach even the hardest to reach areas in my back so I’m quite fond with scrubbing lately. It’s really nice to have a guy friend around. Now I am starting to miss my best guy friend Angelo.
