Local expert with city guides from

When you finally booked your holiday or citytrip, you just want a local expert to tell you the best places in town. So you can skip all the other boring places you don’t want to see. Let me help you with that.

Local Expert Stockholm HamburgThere is an app for Android or iOS. It’s called and it helps you to make your personal guide for your trip.

Personal guide
You can make a personal guide by logging in for free and adding a city to your personal dashboard. Then when you’re inside that particular city, you can make a personal and private guide about that city. You can share this guide with friends too if you’re traveling together. You can have pre-fun before the travel by adding new discovered places about the city every time. You’ll get a notice when your friend adds something new to. This is great way of planning your trip alone or together.

The guide can be downloaded in the app, so you can use the city guide offline. The maps are offline available too, showing where the places are, where you want to go! You’ll be the new local expert this way.

Local experts
There are local experts telling you where to go! For example chefs telling you their favorite restaurants or make-up artists telling you the best beauty places to go. You can find all kind of local experts.

My friends and family
When my friends and family visit me, they ask me a lot; where should we go in Stockholm? I am the local expert here, right? So Maikel, my friend below in this picture, came up with the idea to download this app and use it in our little trips that we had, at the beginning of this year. I found out how easy it is for me to just search for places I know I like and add them to our personal guide that we have together. Then he could choose where he wanted to go and where to first.

Local Expert Stockholm Hamburg

All kinds of places
In the app you’ll find all kinds of places; shopping malls, shops, restaurants, bars, beauty and lifestyle stores, you name it. You can add new places or suggest new cities in the app, which you feel are missing. There are about 150 cities already created in the app. This is really fun for an expat too, who newly moved to a new city.

Since Maikel travels a lot to Hamburg, he created guides for Hamburg. But not the normal one. You can also be a Local Expert in and work together with them. He collaborated and created theses guides, which you can find on their website and in the app right away. Here is what he suggested as local expert and why:

Maikel’s guides:

1. Beauty and Luxury in Hamburg

2. Fine dining in Hamburg

I couldn’t be more excited when I saw his guides. It was so nice and easy to use. He proposed me if I wanted to make one myself too, being the local expert of Stockholm. I thought it was such a nice idea, so now you can find me as well on the app and website, being the local expert of Stureplan. The fanciest area of Stockholm. You know what’s even more fun? Any one can be a local expert or create a personal guide. You just have to ask them to work together of course. So if you think that you have a nice area or city to show; help them out making this app even more successful! Share your expertise!

My guide:

1. The best of Stureplan

I will upload more guides in this article as this is a ongoing process. Maikel will make one for Amsterdam South and I will make another one for Gamla Stan in Stockholm. You’re welcome back to check the updates out!

PH: two photo’s from Maikel are his. Stockholm pictures are mine =)

Would you like to make a guide and would you use this app? Do you recommend any other apps?

I had not heard of this app yet. I usually use either Yelp or TripAdvisor (for the countries where Yelp doesn’t exist yet) for planning citytrips, they both allow downloading the map you’ve created for use offline. Lonely planet has some great city guide apps too but I only use the free ones, being Dutch and all :’) I usually create some offline Spotify playlists and download some podcasts for the trip there and then I’m all good to go 🙂

I’m using a lot of TripAdvisor too. Yes, this offline map is so easy to use with too. Hmm, I have to check the others out! Yes, the Spotify offline playlists are so easy and good to use!

Can’t wait until you try it out when you’re here. You still have not seen anything in Stockholm ha ha. It’s such a big city. The app for the citytrip will help you and I can be your local expert! <3

That is so cool. A travel app that makes sense, and I am telling you, there are simply too many garbage apps out there on the two major platforms. Instead of simply another one of those apps, the uniqueness of this app is having real people doing the guides.

If this is war, those would be like ground level intel. So yes, I tend to trust travellers more than what is being marketed whenever I check out places I am going to.

But there are a lot of apps where ‘real’ people recommend and rate places? 🙂 This seems like a nice app and Sabine gives really good suggestions but it’s not like there weren’t any apps like this available yet imo.

That is such a cool idea! Trip Advisor has something similar, but at least with my past experiences you needed to be online to follow the guide. I like that with Stay you can actually do it offline. I checked your Stureplan guide and I really like the layout and the interactivity it allows.

You can download the city map on TripAdvisor too now! You’ll have an offline map and can sort on either all the places you bookmarked, or on all the tips available. I’ve been using it for a year now and it works perfectly offline 🙂

I have to open this post on my phone so I can download the app. It sounds amazing. I have downloaded at least a dozen of apps for travels but I never find the thing I need. I really hope that this app will help me!

This is something real useful to travelers! And what I like best is that you could sort of customize it- add what you think is necessary or your favorites. For our trips, my friends and I usually “consult” TripAdvisor. But this is definitely a welcome change to us.

Great, I like that you like the app. It is as a matter of fact really useful! The traveling seen through local expert eyes is just different than seeing a city as a tourist =)

What a great idea! I love that you get tips from people that have been there. I always find on vacation that you end up asking for recommendations anyway for the best places to see, eat and hang out in. This totally cuts out the middleman and helps you so you don’t waste any time on your vacation! Cool!

Exactly, this is so easy because everywhere you have this local expert in the app, living in all those cities.

This is such a great idea, I think I’ll make one for my home town and also the current city I live near!! I think I’ll look up the city where in going on holiday this year so I can tell my partner where I want to go! I love that you can share it with friends and family so your not playing tour guide for the entire trip!

This seems to be a cool app Sabine! Unfortunately, when I checked for Manila or any place in PH, it’s not on the guide yet. It’s either this is not widely used here or not a popular destination yet to users.

This is the first time I’ve heard of this app. I wonder if it is also available in my country. Exploring a city can be a hassle sometimes so if I have an app that can guide me through it then that would be great.

I would love to make a guide, actually, I’m the one who always takes care of the itinerary when I travel with friends. I am a control freak like that haha… I’d check out and see if I can use it.

Thank you for the tip. I hadn’t heard of it yet. I usually use Tripadvisor or Triposo to plan trips. I love to search for imformation about the places we go on forehand. It’s part of the vacation. What I like most is that you can use it offline. I will surely download the app for my next trip to Barcelona.
