Our little prince has finally arrived. I have been offline for a while and I’m not really blogging a lot yet, but I wanted to write something small about our little prince!
We call him Mason, and his second name is Sam (Mason Sam). Mason comes from “MAS” = “Mache And Sabine” and SON (our son). The same with Sam, that stands for Sabine And Mache. Of course we loved the name “Mason” in general! I texted the name to Mache, while he was at work, which I did a lot while being pregnant, thinking of names and sending them to Mache. Then he liked the name ‘Mason’ and I did too so we decided to call him Mason already when he was in my bump. We didn’t tell anyone however. It was a surprise for everyone.
Mason is a wonderful little boy, he’s growing really well. Today he’s 2 weeks and 6 days. He weights 3750 gram already, we checked it yesterday! Almost 400 gram more since last week. He’s 52 cm tall already now. The breastfeeding is going really well, from start actually. It’s amazing to feed my son. It gives me so much joy, even though it’s tiring and hard work. It’s wonderful to have Mason in our arms finally!
I am enjoying him so much, don’t want to spend so much time doing other stuff right now. Besides that, I am sleeping a lot during the day when he’s sleeping too. The nights are going well, he’s sleeping 3-4 hours between the feedings but it’s nice to take my rest during the day too. It’s so important to recover from the natural delivery. My dream came true; I delivered vaginally after the C-section I had with Féline (our firstborn daughter). I tried to deliver without epidural and I succeeded. Mache was my biggest support and also the midwife was amazing! I delivered in Karolinska Huddinge (hospital here in Stockholm). I can recommend this hospital to anyone.
We have spend some time at the BB (special area in the hospital) after the delivery. Three days of having a cosy bubble together in a room with bathroom. It felt like a mini holiday with just the three of us. The room was like a hotel room (besides the hospital beds). It was a totally different experience than the first days after the birth of Féline (early born, with emergency c-section due to pre eclampsia / Hellp syndrome).
This was how it is supposed to be. It was a wonderful experience. Of course giving birth is not just easy and all amazing. But to us, this experience was, because our son was fully grown and I was recovering much faster from the natural birth than the C-section. Mason was born with 40 weeks and 1 day. We are so proud of him and it’s amazing to bring him home. The first week was very confronting for us though. All the positive things and normal experiences, how a baby should be born. It’s great to have this now. Also confronting to see what we missed the first time with Féline. And all the things that she didn’t got when she was born. To see her suffer in the Intensive Care was hard. Even harder to realize now because Mason is just happy and healthy at home.
Mason has a lot of similarities to Féline. Although he’s a totally different baby as well. It’s wonderful to see how much they are brother and sister in that way. It’s hard to see him grow without having her close to us, she will be always missed. Although Mason brings back memories of her that I forgot already. That’s confronting, but wonderful to cherish too. She will always be his big sister. I know she looks after her little brother like an angel. I just know.
Being a mom is wonderful. It comes with hard work and hardly any time for myself. It’s all worth it. I will do anything for Mason, just like I did for Féline. Mason is the best son on earth I must say! He’s happy and very satisfied. He asks for milk all the time and he loves sitting with me. It’s so great to wake up with a baby and spent time together with Mache and Mason in one bed. So much love and cuddles. He makes me smile all day and I can’t stop kissing him. He’s so loved and so welcome.
I will pick up writing on my blog more often when I feel like it. Right now I’m still recovering and just enjoying our newborn son and time together. It’s great to see how much mail we receive from the Netherlands and of course Sweden after sending out his birth announcement in a card. We are very pleased with all the interest of everyone. It’s super to realize how many people care about him and us.
Thank you for everything and soon more 🙂
Lot of love,
