Summer weekend in Hamburg
Yeah, we had such a lovely summer weekend in Hamburg with our friends Maikel and his boyfriend! I would really like to thank them for inviting us and taking care of us. They picked us up from the airport and drove us around in the cabriolet. We had so much food together and good times. We have stayed for three nights.
Easy Jet
We flew with Easy Jet which cost us 22 euro per person per way, so this whole trip costed 88 euro. For this price, I can really not be picky about flying with Easy Jet. The only thing I don’t really like is that you can not bring a handbag next to your trolley. I took a wallet on chain kind of bag. So very small and that was allowed.
Drivers’ license is not a valid ID
From Sweden to The Netherlands, it was no problem to fly with only a drivers license. But we have learned that this is not officially a valid ID that you can travel with, with Easy Jet. Norwegian is easier in that way but Easy Jet says that they CAN refuse to take you on the flight. I just would like to share this info, since I always thought that a drivers license is valid enough within most countries in Europe. According the Dutch government website (rijksoverheid), you can cross a border with a drivers license (even in the airport), but you can’t STAY in a country without valid ID or passport (valid travel document).
Hamburg
Hamburg itself was amazing! We went out and we saw so many nice places. I made two video’s (vlogs) about it, so next friday you will see more. The places we have visited in Hamburg really touched my heart. I fell in love with this city. It has so much to offer. Take a look at the video and let me know what you think of Hamburg and keep an eye on next Friday, there is so much more to come… of course I will write some more in a next blog post too!
Have you been in Germany and what do you think of our summer weekend in Hamburg?
Would you like to go there?
Auf Wiedersehen,
Sabine

22 July 2016 at 11:59I’d love to visit Hamburg! I’ve been to Munich, Augsburg, Stuttgart, Freiburg and Leipzig, and Hamburg is on my list. Interesting about the passports and driving licenses! I’m from the UK and didn’t realise anybody used anything other than passports, so that’s really interesting to know.
You two are such a cute couple!

22 July 2016 at 17:36Germany is a place that I’ve always hoped to come back to. I was there for an event and there were many places that I missed out on. That juicy meat near the end of the video looks really delicious but I’ve enjoyed the sights and sounds of everything you’ve shown. I appreciate the tidbit about licenses as well, who knows if I may need to travel through that way as well.

Thats little bit sad, and from big cities. But this is cool that you found tickets for you and spend time with fun!

23 July 2016 at 03:12Is it a must to know how to speak German to visit Hamburg?
I tried learning German when I was a kid but found it difficult. I wonder if my kids would have a different experience when I introduce it to them.

23 July 2016 at 18:44Thanks for noting the valid ID. For everyone’s convenience, it’s definitely better to bring your passport all the time for valid ID purposes. Anyway, sure you got an awesome experience getaway in Hamburg. Will definitely wait for your next post about it!

24 July 2016 at 21:17I have never been to Hamburg before, the only city I visited in Germany was Berlin, which wasn’t really to my taste. However, I would give Germany a second chance

I would really like to meet you too, and if you ever plan on coming to England and want to explore the seaside, you can be my guest!

25 July 2016 at 22:13I’ve been to Berlin too. Hamburg is totally different. So much more water and nature (parks). Totally worth it!

25 July 2016 at 07:53For $80, that’s really a bargain price to fly and go to Hamburg. It’s also new to me that some countries don’t allow Driver’s license as a valid ID. It’s still a safe practice to always bring your passport with you when you’re outside visiting a country. Anyway, Hamburg looks like a really nice city to visit especially if you have friends over there who tours you around.

3 August 2016 at 02:25Macarons please!! Those looked awesome. As does the rest of Hamburg, gorgeous buildings. I have only been to a few countries in Europe, so I am adding it to my list of “to visit” destinations. Loved your outfit for the plane by the way! Where is your pink bag from, I have to ask?!

10 August 2016 at 06:34you seem to have so much fun! Driver’s license here in Philippines is a valid id hehe but I actually don’t have one since I do not know how to drive and I don’t have a car to drive with on the first place haha
I really enjoyed the video and those strawberry icecream are really tempting by the way hehe

26 October 2016 at 07:55I still haven’t been to Germany, but I would love to see that place. Yes, I’ll have to bring my passport if I roam around there. Is Easy Jet like a budget airline for Europe? I love your outfits by the way.
